HOW TO BET
WITH LINEEDGE

Unit sizing, injury protocols, pick tiers, and the mindset that separates sharp bettors from the public.

01
Unit Sizing — The Foundation

A unit is a fixed dollar amount you bet on every pick. The size of your unit should be between 1% and 3% of your total bankroll. This protects you from going broke on a bad week while giving you meaningful returns on a winning streak.

The Golden Rule
Never bet more than you can afford to lose on a single game. Set your unit size before you start and do not deviate from it during a losing streak.
BankrollConservative Unit (1%)Standard Unit (2%)Aggressive Unit (3%)
$500$5$10$15
$1,000$10$20$30
$2,500$25$50$75
$5,000$50$100$150
$10,000$100$200$300

We recommend starting at 1 unit per pick regardless of our confidence rating. The pick tier system (below) tells you when a pick merits slightly more — but never go above 2 units on any single pick.

02
Understanding Pick Tiers

Every LineEdge pick is assigned a tier that reflects the strength and clarity of our edge. Here is what each tier means and how to size your bet accordingly.

TierWhat It MeansSuggested Sizing
SHARP PLAY Maximum conviction. Multiple strong signals, confirmed data, clean setup. Our best picks. 1.5 – 2 units
SOLID PLAY Strong edge with good data. These are our standard picks and the backbone of the card. 1 unit
LEAN Slight edge. Worth a look but not enough to commit a full unit. Consider a half-unit. 0.5 units
Important
Even SHARP PLAYs lose. No pick is a guarantee. The tier reflects our confidence in the edge, not the outcome. A 65% win rate is elite — that still means losing 35% of the time.

What to Do When a Player Gets Ruled Out

This is the most common situation where subscribers ask for guidance. We picked 76ers +7 at 10:30AM — Embiid gets ruled out at noon. What do you do?

Our 9AM news update catches most late scratches and injury news before picks lock. But injuries happen throughout the day. When they do, here is how to think about it:

Key Star Ruled Out (Your Side)
The player ruled out is the main reason you made the pick. The edge you had is now significantly reduced or gone.
✕ Consider passing or significantly reducing size. The original reasoning no longer applies.
💪
Key Star Ruled Out (Opponent)
The opposing team loses a key player. Your original pick just got stronger. The line may not have adjusted yet.
✓ Good spot to add or stay in. Your edge increased.
🤔
Role Player Ruled Out
A bench or rotation player is out. Meaningful but not a game-changer. Check if the line moved.
→ Usually hold. Monitor line movement. If the line doesn't move, the market agrees it is not significant.
🎯
MLB Starting Pitcher Scratch
This is the biggest swing in baseball. A top starter going to a replacement arm changes the game completely.
✕ Almost always pass or re-evaluate. The entire pick may have been built on that starter.
🏒
NHL Goalie Change
Goalie is the single most important factor in hockey. An unexpected backup going in changes everything.
✕ Pass if we backed the team for the goalie. The pick no longer has its primary signal.
Line Moves Significantly After News
The line moves 2+ points against your pick after an injury announcement. The market is telling you something.
→ Respect the market. If you already bet early, you got the best number. If you haven't bet yet, reassess.
LineEdge Alert System (Coming Soon)
We are building automated alerts. When a pick-impacting injury hits one of our active picks, you will receive a text and email immediately with our updated recommendation. Subscribe to alerts in your dashboard settings.

Line Shopping — Never Skip This

We display the best book for each pick, but you should have accounts at at least 3-4 sportsbooks. A half-point difference on a spread or 10 cents on a moneyline adds up to thousands of dollars over a full season.

The Math on Half Points
Getting 76ers +7 vs +6.5 does not sound like much. But games land on 7 more than almost any other number in basketball. That half point can be the difference between a push and a loss. Over 300 bets a year, that is worth several percentage points of ROI.

We recommend: FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, and Bovada at minimum. Different books price markets differently, especially on totals and alternate lines.

05
The Mindset That Wins Long Term

Sharp betting is a marathon, not a sprint. The most important things to internalize:

Rule 1 — Think in Samples, Not Single Bets
A 60% win rate means you lose 4 out of every 10 picks. Three losses in a row is completely normal at 60%. Judge performance over 50+ picks minimum, not yesterday's card.
Rule 2 — Never Chase Losses
Doubling your bet after a loss to "get back even" is the fastest way to blow your bankroll. Flat betting 1 unit per pick is the disciplined approach.
Rule 3 — Not Every Day Has a Play
Some days the slate has no clear edges. PASS is always a valid pick. The best bettors in the world pass on 60%+ of games. We would rather give you 1 sharp pick than 5 mediocre ones.
Rule 4 — Variance Is Real
Even the best handicappers in the world go on losing streaks. A -5u week can be followed by a +8u week. Stick to your unit sizing and trust the process over the full season.

Quick Questions
What time do picks come out?
Picks are generated and posted between 5:00-6:00 AM CT daily. The 9AM news update refreshes injury and pitching intel. Check the dashboard around 9:30 AM CT for the final card each day.
Should I bet all three picks every day?
That is up to you. We post our top 3 picks with confidence ratings. Some subscribers bet all three, some only bet SHARP PLAYs. We recommend starting with 1 unit on each pick and adjusting as you get comfortable with the service.
What if I disagree with a pick?
Trust your read. Our picks represent our best data-driven analysis, but you know things about your own risk tolerance and the games you follow. Never bet against your instincts when something feels off.
How do you track results?
All picks are logged in the Tracker tab on your dashboard. Starting May 8, 2026, every pick is automatically recorded with the result updated nightly. You can also log your own results and wagered amounts for a personalized P&L.
What does +6.51u mean?
Units of profit. If your unit size is $50, +6.51u = +$325.50 in profit. If your unit is $100, +6.51u = +$651. That is why unit sizing matters — scale it to your bankroll and the dollar amounts follow.
Is sports betting legal where I live?
Laws vary by state and country. It is your responsibility to verify that sports betting is legal in your jurisdiction before placing any wagers. LineEdge provides picks for entertainment and informational purposes only.
